ABOUT KATIE

Katie has been teaching yoga and guiding embodied exploration since 2005. She is an ERYT-500, Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), Yoga Teacher Trainer, Continuing Education Provider (YACEP), and was a certified Anusara Yoga teacher for many years.

In her weekly asana classes, Katie teaches dynamic alignment in progressive and sustainable flow. She believes that "aligning" is not about looking any particular way or getting it "right" but rather about using reference points in the body to focus our attention, deepen our sensory awareness, and coordinate our movement in intelligent patterns that reflect wholeness rather than fragmentation.

Deeply informed by long time studies in non-dual Tantra and current interests in applied psychology, Non Violent Communication (NVC), Somatic Experiencing, and creative movement practices, Katie weaves practicality, relevance, and soulful intention into her teachings in ways that are accessible, down to earth, and
change making.

Katie offers workshops, immersive study programs, retreats, and yoga teacher trainings at studios across New Zealand and overseas. Outside of groups, she is devoted to supporting the body's own healing process in one-on-one yoga therapy. Katie works with both physical rehabilitation and with mental/emotional health. She offers ongoing mentorship|supervision for yoga teachers and yoga therapists.

Outside of the yoga room, Katie is completing postgraduate study at Massey in Counselling and training in Peter Levine's body psychotherapy modality, Somatic Experiencing. In addition to yoga therapy, she offers 'Body Centred Conversations' sessions and is a volunteer counsellor at MOSAIC, a Newtown organisation offering support for men who have experienced sexual abuse and trauma.

She is the original founder of Grassroots Yoga in Christchurch, the city where she lived and taught yoga for 11 years. Grassroots Yoga continues to thrive, remaining a centre of high calibre yoga instruction infused with intention and heart.

Katie lives in Wellington with her partner Kether, enjoys sharing time with his two active 13 year old boys, humbly learns to mountain bike and surf, and grows daily in her love of the wild and windy south coast.
She is currently expecting the arrival of a new baby in February 2020 and will be taking a teaching sabbatical from Jan-July.
