YOGA IS ALCHEMY: MINI YOGA IMMERSION with KATIE LANE

Nov 2-4th, 2018
Space Yoga & Mindfulness | Wellington

SOLD OUT

The first documented use of the word "yoga" is in the Rig Veda –"Yogakshema".
In English, this literally means "Yoga is cooking". In yoga, we take life as it is given and we "cook" it. We are not always in charge of the circumstances of our life but we are in charge of how we receive them, how we digest them, and how we respond to them. Alchemy is the art of taking ordinary substances and transmuting them –"cooking" them– into something of value, something meaningful, something immensely useful.
In essence, yoga as "alchemy" is a practice of forging connection, creating harmonious alignment (aka relationship) within our body, between all parts of ourselves (body, mind, heart), and with the world as we engage and align with it.

For an entire weekend, immerse yourself in a contemporary approach to Hatha Yoga that weaves dynamic and supportive alignment into accessible, progressive, and purposeful practice. You will leave this weekend workshop with a deeper awareness of and connection to your own unique body structure, a better understanding of the main categories of yoga asanas and the how & why of yoga poses, and an elemental template of outer and inner/subtle alignment that will empower you to find greater support and depth in your yoga practice and in your life.

EXTRA SESSION FOR TEACHERS

Sunday 1.30 - 4pm   TEACHER'S LAB | ETHER/SPACE | OBSERVATION | REFINE YOUR EYE
One of the most important yet under developed skills for yoga teachers is the ability to really SEE your students.
With many students in the yoga room and many different body parts moving all at once, it is often immensely challenging to see who might need immediate support and know how to choose which actions over others are most needed for your students to be both safe and empowered.

Using a template of alignment that works with the foundation of the pose and broad swaths of coordinated movement, we will look at crucial "keystone" asanas, exploring how they literally show us what our students may, or may not be, ready for in their asana practice. Learn simple modifications for common challenges with frequently practiced yoga postures and how to verbally instruct/adjust your student and proactively sequence your classes to support your students where they are.

As a peer learning lab, we will exploring out own movement and postural patterns as well as working with partners and small groups. Space is limited to 18 teachers.
